The way in which his bank account will expand soon has not hit Jaden McDaniels quite yet.Perhaps that’s why he celebrated the signing of his five-year, $131 million contract extension this week with a meal at Olive Garden — no offense to the affordable Italian restaurant chain.“It’s a life-changing thing,” McDaniels said. “It’s a huge number, as big a number as I’ve ever seen. I’m happy to have it.”McDaniels’ representation and the Timberwolves came to terms on the deal hours ahead of the NBA’s extension deadline Monday. Throughout the process, the 23-year-old wing noted he was letting his agents handle negotiations while he focused on basketball. He said he was “super happy and just happy” that the deal ultimately got done.“I just thank (Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly) and all the owners for the opportunity and believing in me,” said McDaniels, the No. 28 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. “My agents always told me we got to be patient. Following a financial boost from Dr. Bill McGuire’s family foundation and other philanthropic partners, initial work could begin as early as next week on a sizable new playground bordering Allianz Field, as well as a 1-acre sculpture garden anchoring the intersection of Snelling and University avenues. The St. Paul City Council is poised to approve two agreements for some $10 million in privately-owned and privately-managed public parklands by the professional soccer stadium that hosts the Minnesota United soccer team in the city’s Midway neighborhood.Mike Hahm, a private consultant on the parks projects, said the development team was not yet ready to release renderings of the park sculpture or sculptures, but he said the garden would be constructed around “a very prominent piece of public art.”McGuire’s family foundation also established the 7.5-acre Gold Medal Park in Minneapolis, a celebrated urban parks oasis that is now funded and maintained by its ...Wild let top line find its own mojo

When Wild coach Dean Evason and his staff discussed breaking up their top line, at least temporarily, it wasn’t because they didn’t believe Ryan Hartman, Mats Zuccarello and Kirill Kaprizov weren’t working hard.Or, really, not having any success. The chief complaint was an old one: Too much superfluous passing in the offensive zone, and not enough help in the defensive zone. But the line had a combined 15 points in the team’s first five games and was creating chances, just not capitalizing on them the way Evason and his coaches knew they could. In 2021-22, the line combined for 105 goals and 252 points. Last season, despite Kaprizov missing a month and Hartman limited to 59 games, they combined for 77 goals and 179 points. So, the Wild weren’t about to rush into anything.“There’s a process of speaking individually, then talking to them as a group,” Evason said on Monday. “It isn’t just their line.”The patience paid immediate dividends on Tuesday, when Ryan Hartman scored a hat trick a...Suspect arrested for allegedly brandishing a shotgun at officers

The Nuggets locker room looked like a high school science class 30 minutes after their season opener. The lab assignment was a dissection, but nobody could could seem to figure out how to extract the innards. Everyone was looking to their left or right, asking a classmate for help.Except even the teacher didn’t know what he was doing. While players studied their experiments, Michael Malone approached DeAndre Jordan’s corner of the room. The 52-year-old coach needed Jordan to spend a couple of minutes showing him all the bells and whistles of the Nuggets’ new object of intrigue: a tricked-out 2023 NBA championship ring. The headlining feature is a ring within the ring — a smaller, “less flashy” (to quote Jordan) yet still diamond-encrusted accessory that slides in and out of the comically large hunk of jewelry. Turns out in the modern NBA, it’s two rings to rule them all. But Malone couldn’t figure out the dissection, so Jordan gave him the tut...Man claims highest SuperLotto Plus jackpot in 15 years at San Bernardino County store
